Description of Red Earth ROM - MAME

This game Red Earth ROM - MAME working perfectly with emulator version mame64ui, you can download on this web site.

Well, what to say? I have a very mixed opinion regarding this game. For you see, if it weren’t so freaking hard, Red Earth would have been an otherwise highly enjoyable experience for me, really; yet when the only available difficulty level is a goddamn japanese nightmare, it’s hard to actually enjoy anything.

The year is 1999, an alternative timeline in which technical inventions and the renaissance period never happened. The society still retains its medieval character. In an attempt to spread its power and corruption, a newly emerged kingdom of Scion starts spawning mystical monsters all over the world, bringing death and chaos. Realizing that what’s actually happening around them is a full scale invasion in progress, four warriors, each from a different country, become the world’s only hope.

Gameplay-wise, Red Earth is your regular 1v1 fighting game, with four playable characters (each with an individual storyline), two player versus mode and a control layout not that much dissimilar to that of the Street Fighter series. What you basically get is an eight-way joystick and two rows of three buttons; first row consisting of a low, medium and hard punch and the second one of a low, medium and hard kick. The first player to win for the second time wins a match.

Now, the visuals are good, the audio is good, and it all adds up to a good game. Yet you’d virtually have to be an absolute pro to play this thing without having to pay like every five seconds for a new life. And don’t get me started on the the terrible combo system (check the move list at gamefaq here), in which I basically did not manage to successfully perform a single move.

You see, no—I’m not much of a fighting game kind of a gamer, but I do enjoy a solid fight every now and then, and I don’t think I’m  that much of a noob. But perhaps, I am. And in that case I’m terribly sorry for this review, Red Earth. I really am. For aside of the insane difficulty, and—at times—incredibly annoying enemies (the squid thing at the beginning of Tessa’s story, for example), I love single bit of you [the game]. I know what I had written in the very first paragraph. I know. But that’s only how I feel about it with the ridiculous difficulty included, you know?. Without it I actually like the game, I like it ver much.

Anyway, how about you try it yourself and let me know what you think about it, huh? And yeah, feel free to call me a noob, whatever.
